Destiny Northern

Graduate Intern- East Texas Baptist University

My name is Destiny Northern, and I am a graduate student at East Texas Baptist University, where I am pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I previously attended Sam Houston State University, where I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Victim Studies. My focus is on providing compassionate, trauma-informed care.

My professional and personal background deeply informs my work as a counselor-in-training. Before pursuing counseling, I served as a firefighter and an EMT for several years, experiences that gave me firsthand understanding of the unique challenges first responders face, including high levels of stress, exposure to trauma, and the ongoing demands of service. I also have an athletic background, having competed in volleyball, golf, lacrosse, and running, which has shaped my passion for working with athletes who may struggle with performance pressure, identity transitions, or balancing mental and physical health.

In my counseling approach, I primarily utilize Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MB-CT), which integrates traditional cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices to help clients increase self-awareness, regulate emotions, and manage stress more effectively. My goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where clients feel empowered to process their experiences, build resilience, and move toward healing and growth.

I am excited to walk alongside you in your unique journey toward wholeness and well-being. I am currently under the supervision of Danielle Bowman.
